1. About these terms
Thank you for choosing to stay at Bristol Camping, Hortham Farm, Hortham Lane, Almondsbury, Bristol BS32 4JW. These terms apply to every booking and every stay on our Certificated Location (CL) touring pitches.
1.1 Bristol Camping is operated by Acornco Ltd, trading as Bristol Camping and Bristol Caravans. “We”, “us” and “our” mean Acornco Ltd and its staff.
1.2 “You” means the person who makes the booking (the lead guest) and, where it fits, every member of your party. The lead guest is responsible for their party keeping to these terms.
1.3 Our touring pitches are a Caravan and Motorhome Club Certificated Location. The Club’s own CL rules apply as well as these terms. Our tent meadow and campervan meadow are open to non-members; see section 11.
1.4 By making a booking, or by arriving and staying on site, you agree to these terms. Please read them before you book.
1.5 This is a working farm and a private home. You are here as our guest, with our permission, for the dates we have approved.
Key rules
These three rules apply to every guest and visitor. Breaking any of them may lead to your stay being ended without refund (section 8).
- No overstaying. You must leave by 12 noon on your booked departure day, unless we have agreed an extension with you in advance (sections 4 and 7).
- No disturbing other guests. Keep noise down, respect other guests’ pitches and privacy, and do not behave in a way that spoils anyone else’s stay (sections 5 and 8).
- Do not pass access codes to anyone else. Gate codes and arrival details are for your booked party only. Do not share them with friends, family, other campers or on social media (sections 4 and 6).
2. Booking and membership
2.1 Club members only. You must be a current member of the Caravan and Motorhome Club to book a CL pitch. Please give your membership number when you book. Please bring your membership card and keep it with you during your stay. We may ask to see it on arrival. The Caravan and Motorhome Club inspector will check your card during unannounced spot checks.
2.2 Book in advance. All stays must be booked and confirmed by us before you arrive. A booking is only confirmed when you receive a confirmation from us by email or text. An enquiry, voicemail or message is not a booking.
2.3 What your booking covers. Your booking gives the people named on it permission to stay on one pitch, with one unit (caravan, or motorhome or campervan), for the dates shown. It does not give anyone a tenancy or any right to live on the land. It cannot be transferred, sub-let or shared without our written agreement.
2.4 Details we need. When booking, please tell us:
- the lead guest’s first name, surname, phone number, email and home address
- the number of adults, children and dogs
- the make and registration of your unit and your car
- your arrival and departure dates
2.5 Accurate details. If the people, unit or vehicles that arrive are different from the booking, we may refuse entry or end the stay (see sections 7 and 8).
2.6 Groups. If you are booking with friends, tell us when you book so we can try to place you near each other. Each unit will need its own booking, and will need a separate club membership number. We may ask for payment in advance for group bookings.
2.7 Age. The lead guest must be 18 or over and must stay on site for the whole booking.
3. Payment, deposits and cancellation
3.1 Pitch fee. We charge £20 per night, a flat fee per caravan, motorhome or campervan.
3.2 Electricity is charged on top of the pitch fee at 27p per kWh, through a coin-operated meter on your pitch that takes £1 and £2 coins. We have plenty of change, but please bring a coin so you can get the kettle on when you arrive. Unused meter credit is not refunded.
3.3 When and how you pay. We do not take a deposit. The pitch fee for your whole stay is paid on arrival by cash or cheque; please bring the correct money. Put your payment in your arrival envelope and post it in the black post box (see section 4).
3.4 How to cancel. Cancellations must be made by phone on 07887 796089. We cannot accept cancellations by email or text message. If we do not answer, please leave a message and call again; your booking is only cancelled once you have spoken to us.
3.5 Cancelling 15 days or more before arrival. There is no fee.
3.6 Cancelling 14 days or less before arrival, or not arriving. The full pitch fee for all the nights booked is payable.
3.7 Changing dates. Please call us. We will try to move your booking if the new dates are free. If they are not, the change is treated as a cancellation under 3.5 or 3.6.
3.8 Leaving early. No refund is given for nights booked but not used.
3.9 If we have to cancel. If we must cancel (for example flooding, farm operations or events outside our control), you will not be charged, and we will offer other dates where we can.
3.10 Your cancellation rights. Pitch bookings for set dates are not covered by the 14-day cooling-off period in the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. This does not affect your other legal rights.
3.11 Travel insurance. We are not responsible for breakdowns, illness, bad weather or other reasons you may be late or need to cancel. We recommend travel insurance.
3.12 Unpaid charges. Any cancellation fee or other charge under these terms that is not paid may be recovered from you as a debt, we may sub-contract debt recovery to a third-party organisation, and we may decline future bookings.
4. Arrival, departure and length of stay
4.1 Arrival is after 12 noon. Latest arrival is 7.00pm. If the electronic farm gate is closed please phone us on 07887 796089.
Please do not share the gate code with anyone.
4.2 Remote arrival. We are often out on the farm, so we use a remote arrival system.
Confirmation of this process will be emailed to you once your booking is confirmed.
4.3 Allocated pitch site. Choose an empty pitch on the site allocated.
4.4 Departure is before 12 noon on your day of departure. Later departures must be agreed with us in advance.
4.5 Maximum stay. The longest single stay is 28 nights. Our pitches are for holidays and touring only. They must not be used as a main or permanent home, a work base, or a postal address.
4.6 Extending your stay. You may ask to stay longer. Any extension must be agreed with us and paid for before your original departure date. If we do not agree, you must leave on your booked departure date.
4.7 We live on site. We may not be there to meet you, but you are very welcome, and we are always at the end of the phone on 07887 796089 if you need anything or have a problem on the way.
5. Your pitch, electricity and site rules
5.1 One unit per pitch. Each pitch is for one caravan, motorhome or campervan, one tow car and one awning. Extra tents, gazebos or vehicles need our agreement first.
5.2 Facilities. Our pitches are large gravel pitches within a grass area, with coin operated 16 amp electric hook-up. Standpipes, chemical waste disposal and recycling are nearby. We do not have showers or toilet blocks, so you will need your own facilities. Please use an approved hook-up cable. If you need an extension cable, or have forgotten something, please call us.
5.3 Background noise. We are close to the M4/M5 interchange. This is great for access but means there is some background traffic noise.
5.4 Toilet waste and water. Our chemical waste points drain to a septic tank. Please:
- use green, eco-friendly toilet fluid while on site (we sell it for less than “blue” fluid in the Bristol Caravans shop)
- use camping toilet paper that breaks up easily (also in the shop)
- never put wet wipes into your cassette or our chemical waste points, as they block the septic tank
- use water carefully, as our supply is metered, and do not wash vehicles on site
5.5 Rubbish. Use the bins provided for everyday rubbish and recycling. Take home broken items, large packaging and anything that will not fit in the bins.
5.6 Quiet and light. Please keep noise down at all times and especially between 10pm and 8am. No drones, radio-controlled devices, fireworks, loud music or decorative outdoor lighting.
5.7 Fires and barbecues. No open fires. Barbecues must be raised off the ground and never left unattended.
5.8 Driving. Drive at walking pace on the farm, keep to the tracks, and give way to farm vehicles and livestock.
5.9 Farm safety. This is a working farm. Keep away from machinery, stores and livestock areas, and close any gates you open.
5.10 Damage. You are responsible for any damage caused by you, your party, your visitors or your pets, and we may charge the reasonable cost of repair.
6. Visitors and guests
6.1 Only booked guests may stay overnight. Anyone not named on your booking may not sleep on site, in your unit or anywhere else.
6.2 Day visitors are welcome between 10am and 8pm if you tell us in advance and give us their names and car registration. We may limit the number of visitors and may charge £5 per visitor car. Visitors must park where we direct.
6.3 You are responsible for your visitors. They must follow these terms and leave by the time above. If a visitor will not leave, we may end your stay as well (section 8).
6.4 No extra units. You must not invite, or tell anyone they can bring, another caravan, motorhome, campervan, tent or vehicle to join you unless it has its own confirmed booking in writing with us.
6.5 Access codes are private. You must not pass gate codes or access details to anyone else. Please do not share our site location on social media or with people who have not booked. If a code is misused, we will change it and may end your stay.
7. Unbooked arrivals, overstaying and refusing to leave
You may only be on our land with our permission, and that permission ends when your booking ends. This section explains what happens if anyone stays without it.
7.1 Arriving without a booking. Nobody has a right to come onto the site without a confirmed booking. We may offer a pitch if one is free and you meet section 2, but we do not have to. If we do not, you must leave straight away when asked.
7.2 Arriving with a booking we then refuse. We may refuse entry if the people, unit or vehicles do not match your booking, you are not a Club member, you have not paid, or your behaviour on arrival upsets or puts people, animals or property at risk. Any payment for nights not stayed will be refunded, unless section 8 applies.
7.3 When your permission ends. Your permission to be on site, and that of your party, visitors and property, ends at the earliest of:
- the departure time on your booked last day
- the time we cancel your booking (section 3)
- the time we end your stay (section 8)
After that you are on the land without our consent, and you must leave with all your belongings.
7.4 Overstaying. If you or your unit remain after your permission ends, you must pay an occupation charge equal to the nightly pitch fee of £20 for each night or part night, plus the reasonable costs we incur because you stayed. These may include staff time, legal and court fees, and enforcement or towing costs. We retain the right to seize property, and apply a lien to hold goods to recover costs incurred.
7.5 Services. Once your permission has ended, we may disconnect electricity and water supplied to the pitch.
7.6 Removing people and vehicles. We will not use force. If anyone refuses to leave, we may:
- ask the police to attend; living on land with a vehicle without consent and failing to leave when asked can be a criminal offence under section 60C of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994
- apply to the court for a possession order and use court enforcement officers
- recover our costs from you
- Action common law or instruct agents to act on our behalf
7.7 Property left behind. If a unit, vehicle or other property is left on site after your permission ends, we may move it to a safe place and store it at your cost. If it is not collected after we have given written notice, we may sell or dispose of it under the Torts (Interference with Goods) Act 1977 and keep our costs from any sale.
7.8 Records. We may take photographs of vehicles and registration plates, and use CCTV at the entrance, to protect our guests and property. We may share this with the police, the courts and the Caravan and Motorhome Club.
7.9 Future bookings. We may refuse future bookings from anyone who has overstayed, brought unbooked guests or refused to leave, and we may report the matter to the Caravan and Motorhome Club.
8. Dogs, children, conduct and ending a stay
8.1 Dogs are welcome, up to 2 per unit, additional animals may be considered if requested. Keep them on a lead at all times on site and under close control on farm walks. Pick up after them and use the bins provided. Do not leave dogs alone in units or cars, or let them bark for long periods.
8.2 Children must be supervised by an adult at all times. This is a working farm with machinery, water and animals.
8.3 Behaviour. Please be considerate. We do not accept abusive, threatening, violent or antisocial behaviour towards our family, staff, other guests or animals, or behaviour affected by drugs or excessive alcohol.
8.4 Ending your stay. We may end the stay of any person or party at any time if they:
- break these terms or the Club’s CL rules and do not put it right when asked
- behave in a way that we reasonably consider puts people, animals or property at risk, or spoils others’ enjoyment of the site
- bring or allow unbooked people, units or vehicles onto the site, or pass gate codes or access details to anyone else
- give false details when booking
In serious cases we may end the stay without warning. When we end a stay, you must leave within 1 hour, or sooner if safety requires it, and section 7 applies. No refund is given for the remaining nights.
9. Liability, data and general terms
9.1 Your belongings. You stay at your own risk. Your unit, vehicles and belongings should be insured. We are not responsible for loss or damage to them unless it is caused by our negligence or breach of these terms.
9.2 Our liability. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or anything else the law does not allow us to limit. Your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 are not affected.
9.3 Faults. If something is not working (electricity, water, gate), please tell us by phone or text so we can fix it.
9.4 Your data. We use your booking details to manage your stay, keep site records and contact you about your booking. We keep them only as long as we need to and do not sell them. We will only send you marketing if you agree, and you can ask us to see or delete your records at any time.
9.5 Website. Information on our website is given in good faith but may change. Please check anything important with us before you travel.
9.6 Changes to these terms. We may update these terms. The version on our website when you book applies to your stay.
9.7 Law. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.
9.8 Contact us. Bristol Camping, Hortham Farm, Hortham Lane, Almondsbury, Bristol BS32 4JW. Email hello@bristolcamping.co.uk. Phone 07887 796089.
10. Finding us
10.1 Do not rely on satnav for the last part of the journey. Satnav is fine to get you to Hortham Lane, but it may take you into the Hortham Village housing estate. The key point: take the first left once in Hortham Lane.
- Google Maps: search for “Bristol Camping”
- what3words: giggles.domestic.licks
- Map and directions: bristolcamping.co.uk/directions-contact-details
10.2 From M5 Junction 16:
- Leave the motorway and follow signs for Thornbury (A38). Zero your trip meter at the junction.
- On the A38 you will pass, on your right, the Almondsbury Interchange Hotel, the Swan pub and a clock tower, then a pedestrian crossing.
- At 1 mile from the junction you cross over the M4. Turn right at the lights into Hortham Lane.
- Take the first left. Pass bungalows on your left and a red post box on your right.
- Pass the “National Speed Limit” signs, then turn left into Hortham Farm.
10.3 The farm entrance (Gate No. 1) has double green metal bar gates and a sign listing the businesses on site: Hortham Farm first, then Bristol Caravans. Then follow the arrival steps in section 4.2.
10.4 Also on site. The Bristol Caravans shop (bolt-on accessories including motor movers, awnings, levelling systems and lithium batteries), workshop (repairs, servicing and MOT) and caravan storage (outside and inside).
More information at bristolcamping.co.uk/cl-pitches.
11. Non-member areas: tent meadow and campervan pop-up meadow
Our tent meadow and seasonal campervan meadow are separate from the CL pitches and are open to everyone; Club membership is not needed. The Key rules and sections 1 and 4 to 10 apply to these areas too, except where this section says otherwise. Section 11 replaces section 2.1 (membership) and section 3 (payment and cancellation) for these areas.
Booking and payment
11.1 Seasons. Both meadows are seasonal. The tent meadow is open from [27 May] to [27 September]. The campervan meadow opens on the dates shown on our website. We may close either meadow at short notice for weather or farm work (see 11.6).
11.2 Prices. £15 per adult per night and £5 per child (12 and under) per night.
11.3 Payment in full when booking. The full fee for your stay is paid when you book, by [bank transfer / card]. Your booking is only confirmed when we have received payment and sent you a confirmation.
11.4 Who is covered. Your booking covers only the people named and paid for. Anyone else, including friends who join you later, must book and pay before arriving. We may check numbers on site, and people who are not booked will be asked to leave (section 7).
11.5 Cancelling. Cancellations must be made by phone on 07887 796089.
- 15 days or more before arrival: full refund, to the account or card you paid from.
- 14 days or less before arrival, or not arriving: no refund.
11.6 If we have to cancel (for example waterlogged ground, weather warnings or farm work), we will refund you in full or offer other dates.
11.7 Maximum stay is 3 nights in the tent meadow and [number] nights in the campervan meadow.
11.8 Groups. The lead guest must be 18 or over and stay on site. We do not accept hen or stag parties or school-leaver groups. Groups of more than [number] people must tell us when booking and may be refused.
Tent meadow
11.9 What you can bring. Tents, hammocks and bivvies. There are no marked pitches; please pitch where we direct and leave space between groups.
11.10 Cars. One car per tent is included. Cars must stay in the car park, about 300m from the meadow. Wheelbarrows are provided to carry your kit. No vehicles in the meadow.
11.11 Campfires are allowed only in the firepits provided. Use fallen wood only; never cut live trees or branches. Never leave a fire unattended, and put it out fully before you go to bed or leave. We may ban fires in dry weather.
11.12 Facilities in the tent meadow: [toilets / water point / waste bins].
Campervan meadow
11.13 Campervans only. The meadow is for campervans and van conversions only. Caravans, trailer tents and larger motorhomes cannot be accepted and should book a CL pitch (Club members only) instead.
11.14 The field. It is a grass meadow with no marked pitches and no electric hook-up. Park where we direct. In wet weather we may restrict where you drive or park, and we are not responsible for vehicles that get stuck.
11.15 Facilities: toilets, one temporary gas-heated shower, cold water taps and waste disposal. Please use the green toilet fluid and camping toilet paper described in 5.4.
11.16 No campfires in the campervan meadow.
Both meadows
11.17 Dogs by prior arrangement only; please tell us when you book. Section 8.1 then applies.
11.18 Arrival and departure follow section 4: arrive after 12 noon (latest 7pm) and leave before 12 noon. Your arrival details will be emailed when your booking is confirmed.
11.19 Leave no trace. Take all your rubbish and belongings with you, or use the bins we provide. Leave your area as you found it.
